Mill A School Grades K-8

At Mill A School we are increasing opportunities for every student to participate routinely in Visual Art Education.

Visual Arts education addresses an essential form of human communication and provides unparalleled opportunities for exploring a multiplicity of viewpoints and modes of expression. Students develop a greater understanding of not only a variety of artworks and art forms, but also the people and contexts that produce them. At the same time, students learn skills, techniques, and ways of thinking that enable them to use art to express their own perceptions, experiences, and views—while simultaneously developing confidence and fundamental skills that will serve them well in school and throughout their lives.

In Art Education classes, students will:

  • Create art in an inclusive and positive environment,
  • Explore a wide variety of artworks and art forms,
  • Develop an awareness of the context and purpose in visual art, and respect for the artist and culture that produced it,
  • Achieve artistic literacy,
  • Explore and respond thoughtfully to art,
  • Practice collaboration in relevant contexts,
  • Become proficient in the use of the tools, processes, and materials of whichever art form and disciplines they are engaged in learning.
